  Journey to Antarctica

In December 1999, reporter Judd Slivka and photographer Meryl Schenker set out aboard the Coast Guard icebreaker Polar Star. Their destination: McMurdo Station, the main U.S. outpost in Antarctica. Throughout the trip they shared their experiences in words and pictures before returning home Jan. 8, 2000. Here are their reports.
