A man suspected in a shooting last night in the Rainier Valley held police at bay for more than four hours last night inside a West Seattle duplex.

SWAT units surrounded the building and at about 10 p.m. went inside the unit and used pepper spray to subdue and arrest the suspect.

Police tracked the man to the apartment after his alleged victim reported being shot at a home in the 9100 block of Rainier Avenue South shortly after 6 p.m.

The 28-year-old victim, who was in satisfactory condition at Harborview Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his thigh, described his assailant and the white sports utility vehicle he escaped in.

Officers spotted the car near the intersection of Southwest Kenyon Street and Ninth Avenue Southwest, but before they could approach the driver he ran into the nearby duplex.
