Stan Williams leaves M's for Tampa Bay
Stan Williams, advance scout for the Mariners and formerly their pitching coach, has resigned his position to join the Tampa Bay Devil Rays as their advance scout, the M's announced Tuesday.
Williams has been the M's advance scout since the 2000 season, viewing and evaluating the team's future opponents. He was the team's pitching coach for two years prior to that.
All together, Williams spent 14 years as a pitching coach in the major leagues before becoming an advance scout.
In Tampa, he will be reunited with Lou Piniella, who left the Mariners after the 2002 season to become the Devil Rays' manager.
