NL Notes: Worrell on DL with neck injury
SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants placed right-handed reliever Tim Worrell on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a pinched nerve in his neck after he tried to recover with rest.
The injury is unique because it doesn't hurt Worrell when he pitches but rather the day after, trainer Stan Conte said. The move is retroactive to May 21.
The Giants recalled Brian Wilson from Triple-A Fresno to take Worrell's spot two days after activating Wilson from his rehabilitation assignment and optioning him to the minors.
Worrell, 38, who opened the season as the team's closer in place of injured Armando Benitez, is 2-1 with a 6.91 ERA and six saves in his second stint with San Francisco.
