AL Notes: Yankees may lose Posada, Wright

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

BOSTON -- Just when the Yankees seemed to be getting healthier with the return of Gary Sheffield, they lost catcher Jorge Posada for at least one game and possibly Jaret Wright for one start.

Posada had a sore hamstring and was not in the starting lineup for Wednesday night's finale of a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox. He was hurt Tuesday night in the same game in which Wright tweaked his groin and left after five shutout innings of the Yankees' 7-5 win.

That game marked the return of Sheffield, who went 0-for-3 as the designated hitter after missing 16 games with a contusion and sprain of his left wrist and hand.

Yankees manager Joe Torre said he would wait for results of an MRI Posada is scheduled to have today, an off day, before deciding whether to add a catcher to the 25-man roster.

SHORT HOPS: Blue Jays RHP Roy Halladay will be given an extra day of rest before his next start. Halladay will pitch against Boston on Monday instead of Chicago on Sunday. ... White Sox SS Juan Uribe was hit in the helmet with a pitch from Oakland's Dan Haren on Wednesday, but wasn't seriously injured. ... Twins RHP Brad Radke gave up 10 or more hits for the fifth time this season in an 11-0 loss to the Indians. ... Rangers rookie 2B Ian Kinsler is expected to be activated from the DL today. ... Angels OF Vladimir Guerrero's first-inning single gave him a 42-game hitting streak against Texas. ... Twins 2B Luis Castillo had the day off after complaining of soreness in his bothersome right knee. ... The Blue Jays outrighted struggling RHP Josh Towers and optioned SS Russ Adams to Triple-A Syracuse. Towers fell to 1-8 and his ERA rose to 9.00 in Wednesday's 10-8 loss to Tampa Bay.
