AL Notes: Millwood's aching arm feeling better

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The aching pitching arm of Texas Rangers right-hander Kevin Millwood felt a little better Monday.

Whether he makes his next scheduled start is up to team management and medical personnel, however.

Texas' No. 1 starter left Sunday night's game in the fourth inning with a strained right biceps. The Rangers lost to the Houston Astros 9-5.

He complained of feeling "a dull ache" in his arm. That sensation was still there on Monday.

"But it's a little better than it was," Millwood said. "No real sharp pain or anything, just kind of an uncomfortable feeling."

Millwood was checked out by team physician Dr. Keith Meister on Monday. General manager Jon Daniels said Meister could find nothing serious.

SHORT HOPS: The Royals put pitcher Mike Wood on the 15-day disabled list with an inflammation in his back. Manager Buddy Bell said right-hander Luke Hudson will take Wood's spot in the rotation, becoming the 13th starter used by the Royals before the All-Star break. The Royals recalled right-hander Joe Nelson from Triple-A Omaha. ... The Rangers called up right-hander Wes Littleton from Triple-A Oklahoma and sent outfielder Freddy Guzman to the RedHawks. ... White Sox second baseman Tadahito Iguchi had to leave Monday night's game against Baltimore after spraining his left ankle in a collision with right fielder Jermaine Dye. He is expected to miss a couple of games. ... Athletics RHP Rich Harden did not respond well to a throwing session on Sunday and will be shut down for a week. Harden is recovering from a sprained ligament in his right elbow. ... Indians OF Jason Michaels is expected to be activated from the 15-day disabled list.
