White Sox 5, Yankees 4: Yankees' miscues help White Sox
Chicago takes series, moves into second in Central

CHICAGO -- Alex Rodriguez rushed another throw and in a hurry, the New York Yankees were in trouble.

The Chicago White Sox took advantage of two key errors and beat the Yankees 5-4 Thursday night, and winning two of three from the AL East leaders.

"It's good," White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said. "Every series for us is big. Hopefully, we'll win it. That's our wish. That's what we're working for. Hopefully, we'll continue to do that."

The Yankees tried to rally in the ninth inning, putting two runners on with two outs. Bobby Jenks got Johnny Damon on a groundout for his 31st save in 33 chances.

Javier Vazquez got his 100th career win in a game that started after a rain delay of nearly 1 1/2 hours.

Tadahito Iguchi had his second straight three-hit game and Scott Podsednik broke a 1-for-14 slump with RBI singles in the second and sixth innings. The Yankees had their chances, too, but left nine runners in scoring position.

Rodriguez, recently plagued by wild throws, made his 19th error of the season and left fielder Melky Cabrera let a ball get past him, helping the White Sox score four times in the second inning.

"It's just frustrating," Rodriguez said. "You can't give those guys extra outs."

Chicago moved into second place in the AL Central, a half-game ahead of Minnesota and 8 1/2 behind Detroit, which visits U.S. Cellular Field this weekend.

"We have (10) games against the Tigers," Vazquez said. "I know they're playing great, but we can't concentrate on them.

"We know that if we play good baseball from here on, we might have a chance."
