NL Notes: Sore knee sidelines Andruw Jones
WASHINGTON -- Andruw Jones was scratched from the Atlanta Braves' lineup shortly before their game against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday night because of a left knee injury.
Jones was replaced in center field by Ryan Langerhans, while Adam LaRoche was moved up from seventh in the batting order to Jones' cleanup spot.
The Braves said Jones has patellar tendinitis in his left knee and listed him as day to day. The club said he was available to pinch-hit.
MARTINEZ EXAMINED: Mets ace Pedro Martinez was examined in New York on Tuesday, one day after a strained right calf forced him out of his start against Philadelphia following the worst first inning of his career.
New York manager Willie Randolph was optimistic that Martinez's injury wasn't serious. A team spokesman said results of the tests won't be known until today.
SHORT HOPS: The Cardinals juggled their struggling rotation, moving Jeff Weaver ahead of Jeff Suppan. The team also recalled outfielder Timo Perez from Triple-A Memphis and optioned reliever Brad Thompson back to Memphis. ... The Astros requested waivers for outfielder Preston Wilson. ... X-rays were negative on Astros right-hander Roy Oswalt's right wrist, but manager Phil Garner was uncertain whether Oswalt would make his next scheduled start Saturday. Oswalt was hit by a line drive Monday. ... Reds closer Eddie Guardado had allowed at least one run in his past three appearances after giving up only one earned run in his previous 10 appearances. Guardado said he was battling forearm soreness that has caused him to alter his delivery.
