Mariners pitcher Rafael Soriano falls to the ground after taking a line drive to the head off of Los Angeles' Vladimir Guerrero during the eighth inning of play. Soriano was taken off the field on a stretcher and transported to the hospital.

The extent of his injuries weren't immediately known.

Dr. Edward Khalfayan, the Mariners' medical director, said Soriano never lost consciousness. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center for tests.

Soriano went down on the grass in front of the mound, clutching his hands to his head as the Mariners rushed to his aid.

The game came to a stop with Seattle leading 6-3 as paramedics came onto the field to get Soriano stabilized and onto a cart. He was driven off the field without ever having gotten to his feet.
