M's Soriano injured by line drive
Mariners reliever Rafael Soriano was hit on the right side of the head by a line drive off the bat of the Angels' Vladimir Guerrero in the eighth inning Tuesday night at Safeco Field.
The extent of his injuries weren't immediately known.
Dr. Edward Khalfayan, the Mariners' medical director, said Soriano never lost consciousness. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center for tests.
Soriano went down on the grass in front of the mound, clutching his hands to his head as the Mariners rushed to his aid.
The game came to a stop with Seattle leading 6-3 as paramedics came onto the field to get Soriano stabilized and onto a cart. He was driven off the field without ever having gotten to his feet.
