Sonics game at a glance

  • PLAYER OF THE GAME: Chucky Atkins hit two big shots in regulation and overtime, both crushing 3-pointers. His second 3-pointer from 30 feet sent the game into the second overtime and the Sonics had nothing left.

  • PLAY OF THE GAME: After Rashard Lewis missed a potentially game-clinching free throw, Atkins raced down court and drained a 30-footer at the buzzer to tie the score 115-115.

  • COACHING PHILOSOPHY: Steve Spurrier wouldn't have lasted a week in the NBA if running up the score was in the unwritten coaching bylaws. That is the hot topic since Knicks coach Isiah Thomas accused Nuggets coach George Karl of piling on Saturday night. That precipitated the melee that led to a 15-game suspension for Carmelo Anthony.

"In the NBA, when you're standing in George's shoes, there was enough time to cut that (lead) down," Sonics coach Bob Hill said. "There's nothing worse than being the coach who blows a 23-point lead. I don't think you can criticize a coach for securing a win."

  • BACK ON SATURDAY? Ray Allen had the bone bruise on his right ankle examined Monday and has been cleared to practice Thursday. He could return Saturday against Toronto.
