Say you saw Susanna Moore 'before'
One of the great delights of author events is catching a writer on the cusp of fame, one of those discovery moments that allows one to long proclaim, "I saw so-and-so before." That will surely be the case with those who turn out to writer Susanna Moore's appearance here next week.
The New York City author, who grew up in Hawaii, will be much better known to many people in the coming weeks when her 1995 erotic thriller, "In the Cut," comes to the big screen as a Jane Campion film starring Meg Ryan.
Moore co-wrote the screenplay for the film, but has moved on to other projects, including a new travel book about Hawaii ("I Myself Have Seen It: The Myth of Hawai'i") and a powerful new novel ("One Last Look"). Again, Moore uses her literary talents to transform what could be a subject for genre writing, with "One Last Look" examining the experiences of two English girls in the steamy foreign world of Calcutta in 1836.
Susanna Moore discusses "One Last Look" at 7:30 p.m. Monday at The Elliott Bay Book Co., 101 S. Main St. 206-624-6600.
