Mrs. Bezos' first novel gets rave review on Amazon
An Amazon.com reviewer gave a big thumbs-up to an upcoming novel from a Seattle author, saying that the debut "heralds the beginning of what bodes to be a substantial writing career."
One added bit of information not on the site, notes industry newsletter Publishers Lunch: The author's name is awfully familiar to Amazon fans -- Mackenzie Bezos, as in, wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and a key player in the company's early days.
Holy coincidence!
While we're enjoying snarking about that, in fairness, the book is getting thumbs-up from other sources to which we wouldn't cry nepotism. "The Testing of Luther Albright" also won approval from Kirkus Reviews, which called it "a self-assured, distinguished debut."
And in a review that isn't listed on the Amazon site, a fiction-writing professor who says he knew the author in her pre-fame life reviews the book in his blog. He calls it "technically perfect but cold," but also compares it favorably with a Jane Smiley novella, and says he expects Bezos will find a plot to match her skill another time.
The book will be officially released in August.
