Readers can get a refund for 'A Milions Little Pieces'
Readers aggrieved by the discovery that James Frey's best-selling memoir contained elements of fiction can get a refund for what they paid for "A Million Little Pieces."
A tentative legal settlement of class-action lawsuits against Frey and his publisher, Doubleday, would provide unprecedented refunds to buyers of his book (with a total payout limited to $2.35 million).
Readers who bought Frey's book before Jan. 26 would have to sign a sworn statement that they bought the book thinking it was a memoir and would have to supply proof of purchase (either page 163 from the $23.95 hardcover or the cover from the $14.95 paperback).
Neither Frey nor his publisher admits any wrongdoing in the proposed settlement, which must be approved by a U.S. District Court judge in Manhattan.
