Boeing's statement

  • Today we are fulfilling our commitment to share our 7E7 site selection plans with Washington state elected officials and other key stakeholders. Next week we will begin the site selection process in earnest by making available to interested communities a formal request for proposal.

  • Competitive pressures being what they are, we have to find the best place to build this airplane. That means weighing carefully a range of criteria that will ensure an efficient, cost-effective and successful final assembly operation.

  • We have hired McCallum Sweeney Consulting, Inc., a Greenville, South Carolina-based firm that specializes in site selection. McCallum Sweeney provided advice and counsel on the criteria, and we've asked them to work with us throughout the selection process. They are well respected and have great knowledge of and relationships with the various economic development organizations across the U.S. We've asked them to work with us to share the criteria with states and to be the point of contact for interested communities.

  • Only U.S.-based locations will be considered for the final assembly location. Our initial research into the potential of using an international location showed us that the costs outweighed the benefits.

  • The criteria focus on all the things you consider when putting together a new business -- transportation needs, facilities, community support, environmental factors, workforce considerations…everything that contributes to the total cost of doing business.

  • We've posted the criteria and contact information for Ed McCallum, who will be our main point of contact, on the Boeing external web. It's linked to the 7E7 site found on www.boeing.com

  • Proposals from interested communities are due June 20. The final assembly location will be announced by the end of the year.

  • It's important to us to preserve the fairness and integrity of the process and to treat responding communities with respect; therefore I want you to know that we do not intend to discuss publicly which states or communities have submitted proposals. Nor will we discuss the ongoing activities of the selection process, including conversations or negotiations with this state or the many stakeholders -- like yourself -- who will be involved. Playing this out in public will benefit no one. We consider the proposals and the discussions about them to be confidential and ask you to do the same.
