Speakeasy lets you become your own Wi-Fi ISP

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER STAFF

Seattle Internet service provider Speakeasy yesterday introduced Wi-Fi NetShare, a service that allows Speakeasy customers to share high-speed Internet connections with their neighbors in a 300-foot to 500-foot range.

Customers can recruit neighbors under a predetermined subscription plan. Speakeasy handles all billing and customer service, though the company is not responsible for security of the network.

If a Speakeasy customer recruits four neighbors at $30 a month, the customer would receive $60 toward his or her account.

The remainder of the money would go to Speakeasy.
