Bankrupt Doc Freeman's seeks buyer

Bankrupt marine-supplies store Doc Freeman's Inc. said it has until Sept. 1 to find a buyer for its store, at 6400 Eighth Ave. N.W. in Ballard. If it doesn't find one, the 56-year-old Seattle institution must move by Sept. 15, either to another location or closing, said President Bill Dreewes. He said Longs Drug Stores California Inc., which leases the Ballard property to Doc Freeman's, yesterday gave his company a 10-day extension, until midnight Aug. 30, to nail down a buyer.

Alan Lippman plans media company

RealNetworks Inc.'s former chief engineer, Alan Lippman, next week plans to launch Trusted Media Networks, a company to deliver audio and video material over the Internet, the new company said in a news release. Lippman will serve as the company's chief executive. Trusted Media Networks said it will offer technology that uses periods of idle Web connectivity to automatically download content in the computer background with the help of a previously installed client. Users receive an e-mail notification linked to immediate playback.

Alderwood Mall attracts 3 clothiers

Three women's apparel stores are among the latest retailers to sign leases with Alderwood Mall, which is in the midst of a major renovation and expansion. J. Jill, Coldwater Creek and Chico's will open at the Lynnwood shopping center when construction is complete next year. The mall is adding about 270,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and theater space.
