Vanson HaloSource wins $1 million contract
Redmond-based Vanson HaloSource has won a contract from the nation's largest privately held medical supply company to develop hospital sheets, pillowcases, scrubs and gowns that kill bacteria.
The three-year deal between Vanson HaloSource and Medline Industries is valued at $1 million. Vanson HaloSource's technology, known as HaloShield, is a patented coating that can be placed on a variety of fabrics.
"HaloShield coatings extend the power of chlorine that allows product manufacturers to turn virtually any surface -- from a cotton sheet to a tile floor -- into a very durable antimicrobial surface," CEO Jerry Wetherbee said in a prepared statement. "HaloShield-treated sheets harness chlorine to kill any virus, bacteria or mold in a matter of minutes." Once the chlorine is depleted, it can be renewed by simply washing the garment in chlorine bleach, he said.
Ron Barth, president of Medline's Medcrest textiles division, said the fabric would help protect patients and employees. Medline plans to begin selling products with the coating in the second quarter of 2004. The company has the exclusive rights to use HaloShield in hospital sheets, scrubs and gowns in North and South America.
Vanson Inc. and HaloSource merged last year, creating a company whose products are used in a variety of industries.
