TUESDAY

Commerce Department reports on international trade for July; Labor Department reports on producer price index for August; Treasury reports on federal budget for August; America West shareholders meet to vote on whether to approve the company's merger with bankrupt US Airways Group Inc.

Earnings reports: Aspen Technology, Best Buy, CHS Helicopter, Kroger, Vivendi Universal.

WEDNESDAY

Commerce Department reports on retail sales for August; Federal Reserve reports on industrial production for August.

Earnings reports: Apogee Enterprises, Brady, Netsol Technologies, Palatin Technologies, Salton.

THURSDAY

Commerce Department reports on business inventories for July; Labor Department reports on consumer price index for August; Labor Department reports on weekly jobless claims; Freddie Mac, the mortgage company, reports on mortgage rates; House Science Committee hearing on cybersecurity and how the government can address vulnerabilities in critical industries.

Earnings reports: Adobe Systems, Asat Holdings, Bear Stearns, DocuCorp International, Pier 1 Imports.

FRIDAY

Commerce Department reports on current account, second quarter.
