Boeing wins again in discrimination claim
Judge says blacks not treated unfairly
The Boeing Co. on Tuesday defeated the second of two federal allegations that it has discriminated against African Americans in its promotion practices.
U.S. District Judge Marsha Pechman ruled that those practices had no discriminatory effect on blacks at the company.
She rejected as unpersuasive the statistical analysis offered by the workers' experts. She also noted that Boeing had written promotion guidelines in place and used structured interviews, both of which reduced its subjectivity.
Earlier in the same case, on Dec. 21, a jury rejected claims that Boeing practiced discrimination against black employees in its promotions.
Pechman's ruling brings the case to an end, though appeals remain possible from either ruling.
