Amazon announces launch of grocery store
Less than two weeks after opening a toy and baby store, Amazon.com today announced the launch of its grocery store.
The grocery store offers more than 1,200 brands such as Kashi, Nestle, Kellogg, Kraft, Seventh Generation and Procter & Gamble, the company said. And Amazon will offer free shipping through the company's "super saver shipping" and Amazon Prime programs.
The store also will have natural and organic products.
To bring in customers, the company is offering grocery shoppers a $10 instant rebate on purchases of $49 or more.
The grocery store started in May in a test phase in order to gather input from customers, the company said. Since then, more than 200,000 customers have tested it.
