Starbucks 'nutritional' drinks begin Tuesday

By ANDREA JAMES
P-I REPORTER

Starting Tuesday, Starbucks Corp. will start selling what it calls a nutritional line of drinks.

The "Vivanno Nourishing Blends" will be on sale at Starbucks stores in the U.S. and Canada. The flavors are orange-mango-banana and banana-chocolate. At 270 calories, the drinks contain one serving of fruit, 16 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber.

Each drink is made with a banana, whey protein, fiber powder, milk and ice.

The Seattle coffee chain, which is suffering from lagging foot traffic into its stores, said it is working to reduce the calorie and fat content in its drinks and baked goods. For example, the company has made 2 percent milk its standard choice for most beverages.
