Starbucks pulls poster, worried it evokes images of fallen twin towers

Starbucks Coffee Co. pulled a promotional poster from more than 3,000 stand-alone retail outlets over concerns the picture of drinks side by side might inappropriately recall the Sept. 11 attacks.

The posters show two tea drinks, with a dragonfly hovering to the left and the headline "Collapse into Cool."

Starbucks pulled the posters June 7, after being contacted by a New York Post reporter following up on a reader's complaint, said Audrey Lincoff, spokeswoman for the Seattle-based coffee chain.

Lincoff said the company had intended no link between the image of the beverages and the terror attacks, in which hijacked jet planes were flown into New York's twin towers, collapsing them.

"As a responsible company, we want to ensure that nobody is offended," she said Sunday, noting that no customers had complained to Starbucks.

The posters were hung on the walls of Starbucks retail outlets in the United States and Canada in April. They were due to be removed at the end of June.
