Pacific Northwest Ballet names Peter Boal as artistic director
Pacific Northwest Ballet's board of trustees made it official last night, naming Peter Boal as artistic director.
The 39-year-old principal dancer with New York City Ballet will take over the company on July 1. PNB had announced Boal was its "lead candidate" for the job early last month. Kent Stowell and Francia Russell, who have led the company since 1977, are retiring at the end of the current season. Boal has been working with them to put together PNB's 2005-2006 season.
Carl Behnke, chairman of the search committee that selected him from 50 candidates, cited Boal's connection to the Balanchine choreographic tradition, his understanding of dancers and his commitment to dance education.
