Yukon River king salmon now available in Seattle
Yukon River king salmon season officially started last Thursday in Alaska, which means the fish is now available in Seattle.
The Yukons are known for its high oil content, which is even higher than Copper River king salmon -- though some people don't like the richer flavor, which can be overwhelming.
Because of a newly established Yukon River Fisheries Marketing Association, which represents the region, the fish is more widely available on the retail market this year.
In addition to being on the menus of your favorite seafood restaurants and available fresh in stores including Fremont PCC, Metropolitan Markets, Central Market, Ballard Market, Larry's, Mutual Fish, Wild Salmon Seafood Market (in A&J Meats on Queen Anne), and some QFC's. Be sure to ask at the fishmonger at your favorite store for availability.
The cost is around $18 (Metropolitan) to $27 (PCC) per pound for fillets, depending on the store. For more information, visit www.yukonriverwild.org
