Mora decides to remain with Seahawks

Assistant spent two days interviewing with Redskins

KIRKLAND -- He went. He saw. He talked. He has declined.

Seahawks assistant coach Jim Mora withdrew his name from consideration Friday for the Washington Redskins' vacant head-coaching job, after spending two days meeting with club owner Daniel Snyder.

"I want to thank the Redskins organization and owner Daniel Snyder for the opportunity to interview for the head coaching position," Mora said in a statement released by the Seahawks.

"The process reconfirmed that the quality of life for my family in Seattle is my first priority."

Mora, who grew up in the Seattle area and played football at Interlake High School and the University of Washington, was hired by the Seahawks last January -- after being fired as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons after three seasons.

"This past year has been a great experience both professionally and personally for myself, my wife, Shannon, and our kids," Mora said. "We are very happy members of this community and the Seattle Seahawks organization."

Mora coached the Seahawks' defensive backs, but also was given the title assistant head coach.

With coach Mike Holmgren in Arizona with his wife, Kathy, discussing whether he will return for a 10th season, Mora could be in line to become coach of the Seahawks.

Mora was flown to the Washington, D.C., area Wednesday on Snyder's private plane and then had a lengthy interview with the Redskins owner at his home. The interview continued Thursday, after Mora had spent the night in a guest home on Snyder's property.

In his first season with the Seahawks, Mora was credited with helping cornerback Marcus Trufant have his first Pro Bowl season and overseeing a secondary that allowed a league-low 15 touchdown passes.
