  HEADLINES ABOUT THE DOME

When chilled kids whine 'Kinwegonow,' remember the Dome
Art Thiel: It's a fact of American culture that old fields, ballparks and arenas go away. What was different about the Kingdome was the building had a civic utility beyond what the sports teams needed. But the sports teams were the tail wagging the civic dog.

Not even a quake could crack the Dome
On May 2, 1996, the Mariners became only the second baseball team in the history of the league to suspend a game because of an earthquake.

At the heart of it all were the workers
More than 73 million people passed through the gates at the Kingdome. But for every event, there were as many as 1,500 more -- ushers, groundskeepers, elevator operators and concessionaires. They knew the Kingdome like no one else.

Death was no stranger here
Five people died of injuries at the Kingdome during its quarter-century of operation.
