Ideas on how to win the naptime battle
Here are some tips on how to establish a nap routine for your child with the best chance of success.
1. Institute a regular naptime, whether a specific hour of the day or an arrangement such as "right after lunch."
2. Have a "nap quilt" or other familiar covering on top of the child's bed, for a feeling of comfort and security and a reminder that it's time to nap.
3. Introduce a quiet activity shortly before naptime. 4. Withhold candies and other sugary treats right before naptime. 5. Recite soothing poems to help the child relax. Tips thanks to Cynthia MacGregor, author of "The Naptime Book" (Conari Press, $12.95).
