Crayola names white crayon after Space Needle
Maybe all those Eastern writers were right when they declared dead the lifestyle influence of Seattle and our state. Crayola has come out with a new box of colors, with a representative hue for each state. And Washington ended up with ... white, which Crayola calls Space Needle.

The state colors and names were selected by a Crayola committee from among 25,000 nominations, and ours was suggested by 11-year-old Kole Allen of Monroe.
Rejected Washington colors included Double Tall Latte Brown, Mount St. Helen's Ash and Seattle Rain.
Our neighbors got such cool colors as Tater Tan (Idaho), Big Sky (Montana) and Sacra-minto (California). The Crayola State Colors come in a limited-edition 64 Box ($5.99) that includes 12 "all-American" hues and colors for Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.
