New line of plush toys resemble germs and bacteria
The college biology student wanted her boyfriend to give her Syphilis for Christmas, but she got Ebola instead, and she was delighted. No, not the illness, but a Giant Microbe, a new line of so-ugly-they're-cute plush toys that resemble -- somewhat -- germs and bacteria.

From the Black Death to Bad Breath, the furry little creatures, about the size of a softball, are a hot new gag gift (although some pediatricians buy them to educate their young patients).
The toys are a sort of blown-up cartoon version of the way the real microbes look under a microscope, with a tag attached that explains the symptoms.
Available for $5.95, mainly through the company's Web site (www.giantmicrobes.com), the cuddly little nasties are rolling out to retail stores such as university bookstores and museum gift shops.
