Talks continue over fate of Northshore Pool

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER STAFF

BOTHELL -- Northshore School District officials were still negotiating late yesterday with King County over language in an agreement that relinquishes Northshore Pool.

The school district owns the property, but the county-owned pool is to be operated by Northwest Center, formerly the Northwest Center for the Retarded.

Facing a $50 million revenue shortage, the county is unloading parks, pools and other costly recreational assets to cut expenses.

Cities, towns, school districts and the Northwest Center have stepped in to save the pool and have agreed to share the load. But the decision-making process has not been easy

School negotiator Craig Hopkins said yesterday the issue now is liability. "I don't think this is a deal killer. But we need to make clear that if this pool has to be boarded up for some reason one day, King County is still financially responsible for what happens should someone get hurt."
