Bill banning 'up-skirt' photography sails ahead

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER STAFF

A measure restricting "up-skirt" and voyeuristic photography on Friday became the first bill approved by a House committee this legislative session.

The Judiciary Committee unanimously passed the bill, sponsored by Rep. Pat Lantz, D-Gig Harbor. It moves to the House floor early next week for a vote.

House Bill 1001 includes an emergency measure to make it active as soon as it is signed into law.

The bill is in response to a state Supreme Court ruling last year that the state's old voyeurism law was too broad to cover filming up women's skirts.
