Man sues police chief, claiming right to go nude in public
A Seattle man who "desires to go nude at the Fremont Solstice Parade without fear of unjust arrest" sued Seattle police Chief Gil Kerlikowske yesterday to secure what he characterized as his constitutional rights.
David Zaitzeff, who is representing himself in the federal lawsuit, maintains that nudity at the solstice parade and Mardi Gras celebration is so common and predictable that it does not affront or alarm anyone -- the legal definition of indecent exposure.
Zaitzeff says he has walked around Green Lake wearing an "opaque thong," which he says has led to his being "threatened with police action."
Zaitzeff wants a court to order Seattle cops not to arrest nude or topless people at the Fremont parade and Mardi Gras celebration.
