Woman is slain in Black Diamond's first-ever homicide

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER STAFF

BLACK DIAMOND -- Police arrested a 42-year-old man yesterday in what they say is the first homicide ever in this South King County city.

Officers responded to a call of a reported stabbing at the Cedar Brook Mobile Home Park early yesterday morning, police Cmdr. Christopher Hurst said. They found that the 35-year-old woman had escaped to the home of a neighbor, who drove her to Enumclaw Hospital. She suffered multiple stab wounds and died on the way, he said. Her name was not being released last night.

When officers entered the residence where the domestic dispute occurred, they found the man on the kitchen floor with cut wrists. He was treated at a hospital and released and then was booked on investigation of first-degree murder, Hurst said.

The woman's 3-year-old son apparently witnessed the attack, while her 8-year-old son got out of the house earlier, Hurst said. Police had been called to the residence before for domestic disturbances, but the couple refused assistance.

The man is expected to make a court appearance today, with charges possible by tomorrow, Hurst said.
