Rape charges against teens at church conference are dropped
Charges against three boys who had been accused of raping girls at a church youth conference in Issaquah have been dismissed.
King County prosecutors dropped second-degree rape charges against two 16-year-old boys on Friday, more than two months after dismissing charges against the third boy, 17. They will not be allowed to refile the charges.
Two of the girls maintain that they were raped, but other teens who also attended the Trinity Lutheran College conference July 28 have cast doubt on the allegations, said attorney Dennis McGuire, who represents one of the 16-year-old boys.
Prosecutor's spokesman Dan Donohoe said only that "new information surfaced, and we felt we could no longer prove a case beyond a reasonable doubt."
All three were initially accused of forcing three girls to have sex at the conference. Charges were dropped against the 17-year-old in August because his accuser recanted, attorneys said.
