Getting Involved: UW offers lecture series

THE ISSUE

Each spring, University of Washington faculty share results of their research in a free public lecture series: "Exploring Our World: Discovering New Frontiers."

THE SERIES

This year's lectures address the environment, nanotechnology and genomic health care.

Topics this year extend from pole to pole, beginning with professor Dee Boersma, who for more than 20 years has studied penguins from the equator to Antarctica.

THE DATES:

  • April 20 -- "Insights From Penguins on Environmental Variation," Dee Boersma, professor, biology, women studies.

  • April 27 -- "Biology Is Nanotechnology: How our Cells Write, Read, Copy and Store Genetic Information," Alan Weiner, professor and chairman, biochemistry, UW Medicine.

  • May 4 -- "Genomic Health Care: Promises and Challenges," Wylie Burke, professor and chairman, medical history and ethics; adjunct professor, epidemiology, medicine.

  • , May 11 -- "The Changing Arctic: Exploration, Transformation and Impacts," Jamie Morison, principal oceanographer, UW Polar Science Center, Applied Physics Lab.
