USS Abraham Lincoln flight deck repair will cost $1.4 million
BREMERTON -- It will cost $1.4 million to replace a large section of a non-skid surface on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.
The surface began peeling months after it was installed at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
The Navy said it will need to replace a 1.6-acre section of the 4.5-acre flight deck. The Navy is testing portions of the surface to determine what caused it to peel up six months after installation. Test results are expected by early May. Such a surface usually lasts for two years, The Sun of Bremerton reported.
Todd Pacific Shipyards of Seattle was hired to install the non-skid surface and hired subcontractor Nelson Industrial Services Inc. of Oklahoma to perform the work.
