Man charged with soliciting assault

TACOMA -- An Edgewood auto body shop owner has been charged with trying to hire someone to blind a teenager he thought had stolen his car, Pierce County sheriff's deputies say.

Deputies and federal agents arrested Scott Wright, 44, of Tacoma, on Wednesday after he gave another man $300 and offered more money, marijuana and free car work to carry out the attack, sheriff's Detective Ed Troyer said.

"Wright stated he wanted the victim's eyes burned out with cigars so he could not steal any more cars," the spokesman said.

Wright pleaded innocent Thursday to a charge of solicitation to commit first-degree assault. He remained in jail with bail set at $75,000.

According to sheriff's deputies, Wright's 1971 Chevrolet Camaro was stolen from in front of his home June 6, and he subsequently posted a sign in his yard offering $1,000 for the identity of the thief.

He then offered a customer $1,000 to recover the car and find the person who took it, Troyer said.

Meanwhile, Federal Way police found the Camaro dismantled in an apparent chop shop but made no arrests because of a lack of evidence.
