Church won't obey order to move camp
BOTHELL -- St. Brendan Catholic Church will disobey a city of Bothell request to move a camp for the homeless away from nearby Heritage Christian School to other church property.
The church, which has been home to the Tent City 4 encampment since May, said the request, which is a condition of a city permit, is unnecessary because Heritage Christian School is not in session, Tent City 4 residents will move from St. Brendan property on Aug. 15, and no camp will be held during the school year.
The First Baptist Church, which runs the school, also has said the temporary move until the middle of next month is not needed.
St. Brendan officials are expected to ask the Bothell City Council to reconsider the condition on Monday.
Some community members have voiced concern about Tent City 4 being so close to Heritage Christian School.
St. Brendan said it would abide by the other Tent City 4 permit conditions.
