Animal rights activist is jailed for contempt
A federal judge held an animal rights activist in contempt and sent her to jail yesterday after she refused to testify before a grand jury investigating suspected ecoterrorism.
Gina Lynn first invoked her Fifth Amendment right not to testify before the grand jury Wednesday, according to her attorney, Peter Camiel of Seattle.

At a hearing yesterday morning, U.S. District Judge Thomas Zilly denied a motion to quash the subpoena that ordered her to appear and gave Lynn, of Anaheim, Calif., another chance to testify before the grand jury. She again refused, and Zilly sent her to jail.
Camiel said he expects that Lynn soon will be transferred to the Federal Detention Center in SeaTac. She'll willingly stay there, he said, until Zilly "decides she's not going to be coerced to testify," or until the term of the grand jury runs out. That could be next month -- or possibly six months after that if prosecutors ask for an extension.
Lynn was to be questioned about several acts, including a suspicious fire at an Olympia timber company May 7, 2000, and an incident later that morning in which someone broke into an egg farm in Burlington and stole 228 chickens.
