Woman sentenced for Cambodian adoptions
A Seattle federal judge sentenced a Mercer Island woman yesterday to six months of home detention for her role in brokering the adoptions of impoverished Cambodian children who were not orphans.
Lynn Devin's sister, Lauryn Galindo -- considered the leader of the adoption scam, which falsified the visa applications of the so-called orphans -- was recently sentenced to 18 months in a federal prison. Federal prosecutors asked for a lenient sentence for Devin because she admitted guilt early in the case and aided in the investigation and prosecution of her sister.
And, unlike her sister, prosecutors conceded that "it may be true that Devin was not motivated primarily by greed." She must also pay a $30,000 fine.
