Cantwell will push for biodiesel production

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER STAFF

U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., will push this week for legislation to spur local production of biodiesel fuel.

Noting that 90 percent of biodiesel fuel is made from soy, Cantwell said Seattle-area consumers could save 25 cents to 50 cents a gallon on alternatives to gasoline if they could be made in Washington with crops grown locally instead of transported from soy-growing states.

She announced her proposal at Laurelhurst Oil, which just opened biodiesel pumps.
