Man falls onto I-5 in deadly game

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER STAFF AND NEWS SERVICES

A bizarre contest early yesterday between two men who may have been drinking led to the death of one who fell from a freeway overpass onto a moving truck.

The men were on Olive Way where it crosses Interstate 5 at about 2:45 a.m., competing to see who could hang from the overpass railing the longest, Seattle police Detective Debra Brown said.

As both hung from the railing, one told his friend he was having trouble getting back up. The companion told police he tried but was unable to help him.

The first man lost his hold, hit a big-rig truck traveling at least 60 mph, then landed on the freeway, where he was hit by a car, Brown said. The car didn't stop, she said.

Authorities did not identify the dead man.
