Passage assured for Eyman's I-900

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER STAFF AND NEWS SERVICES

Tax reformer Tim Eyman's Initiative 900 rode voter enthusiasm for wider and better auditing of state and local programs to victory.

The initiative would beef up a bill passed this year by the Legislature. That bill, backed in part by State Auditor Brian Sonntag, provides for performance audits of state agencies. Eyman, who celebrated his apparent victory Tuesday wearing a gorilla suit, referred to his initiative as the "900-pound gorilla" of government accountability because it would provide $10 million a year in funding for audits, significantly more than the $2.8 million earmarked for the next two years under current legislation.
