County Council backs motel housing idea

SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER STAFF

The King County Council unanimously decided Monday to pay for a proposal from Councilman Bob Ferguson to create housing for the homeless by buying and renovating closed motels.

The money will help establish the "Jumpstart Initiative," which will enable King County to quickly acquire and renovate about five properties that have closed motels to create housing for homeless people.

The money is part of the fourth quarter corrections to the 2005 King County Budget.
