Victim of shooting succumbs to wounds
BOTHELL -- A man was fatally shot at his home, which was also the scene of a child beating death in 1991.
Douglas B. Erlandson, 60, died Saturday night at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, said Everett police, who were handling the investigation because of an overload of homicide and lesser assault cases.
Erlandson's son said he found his father bleeding and unresponsive Friday morning at the house they shared, police Sgt. Boyd Bryant said.
Bryant would not say Sunday whether investigators had a theory about who was responsible for the shooting. An autopsy was pending.
The dead man was once married to Noreen Erlandson, 53, a former nurse who was convicted of second-degree murder in the beating death of their adopted 2 1/2-year-old daughter, Kayla, in 1991.
Noreen Erlandson spent about 12 years in prison, but her murder conviction was overturned by the state Supreme Court and she was released a year ago after entering a modified guilty plea to the lesser offense of first-degree manslaughter.
The Erlandsons were divorced in 2002.
