Minimum wage to rise in Washington
OLYMPIA -- A 28-cent-per-hour increase in Washington's minimum wage takes effect Sunday, boosting the state's baseline pay to $7.63 per hour, the highest in the nation.
The state Department of Labor and Industries recalculates the minimum wage each September according to changes in the federal Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers.
The minimum wage applies to workers in agricultural and non-agricultural occupations alike.
Oregon's hourly minimum wage also rises Sunday, by 25 cents, to $7.50, making it the second-highest in the nation. The 3.4 percent increase matches inflation.
The federal minimum stays at $5.15.
