Bicyclist is struck, killed by speeding car
A 17-year-old Seattle man apparently driving too fast in West Seattle lost control of his car and struck and killed a bicyclist Friday afternoon, Seattle police said.
The accident occurred about 1 p.m. on Highland Park Way Southwest near Second Avenue Southwest and the underpass of the First Avenue South bridge, police spokesman Rich Pruitt said.
The driver had just merged onto Highland Park Way from northbound state Route 99 when the accident occurred.
The driver had just driven through the bridge underpass when he veered onto the sidewalk and struck the bicyclist, Pruitt said.
The bicyclist was pronounced dead after being taken to Harborview Medical Center. His name was not released.
"It is very apparent that speed was a contributing factor in this collision," said Pruitt.
