Police seek man who stabbed clerk

P-I STAFF

Someone stabbed a Capitol Hill grocery store clerk several times in the stomach Sunday night and fled.

Police were searching for the assailant last night.

Officers said the assailant stabbed a clerk in Benson's Grocery, at 320 E. Pike St., shortly after 7 p.m. Police described him as a 5-foot-6-inch black man of medium build in his early 20s, wearing a black baseball hat, a blue windbreaker and blue jeans.

The clerk was conscious, with serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said. There were no other witnesses to the stabbing, though several people -- including another employee -- saw the assailant.
