Liquor Board to hear from public about alcohol ban
The problems that come with sales of malt liquor and fortified wine -- street crime, panhandling, public urination -- are at the heart of the City Council's decision to add an expanded alcohol-impact area in the Seattle's central core.
Tonight at City Hall, the Washington State Liquor Control Board will hold a public hearing from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to determine whether to grant the city's bid to add another alcohol-impact area.
"These are the areas that had the greatest number of calls to emergency services for alcohol-related incidents," said Councilman Tom Rasmussen, who proposed the legislation.
If the liquor board approves the city's legislation, it would prohibit the sale of specific products on a list supplied by the City Council.
The board will hear testimony from residents, then decide on the city's request.
