Cache of fireworks seized
KENT -- Acting on a tip, Kent fire investigators and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives seized a large cache of fireworks Thursday.
About 1,100 pounds of fireworks were found in a 25-foot metal shipping container at a farm at the 18200 block of 72nd Avenue South, said Capt. Kyle Ohashi of the Kent Fire Department.
The fireworks were a mix of consumer-available fireworks and commercial-grade fireworks typically used by professionals. The possession of the fireworks was not illegal, but the owner of the fireworks did not have a permit or store them properly.
Investigators have contacted both the owner of the fireworks and of the property and the investigation is ongoing, Ohashi said.
The fireworks were removed and stored securely by the ATF and Washington State Patrol.
